Burkina Faso and Ghana Abolish Roaming Fees

Burkinabè and Ghanaian subscribers can now communicate freely across the border. Starting this Friday, November 21, 2025, travelers from both countries will be able to use their national SIM cards in the neighboring territory without paying roaming charges.

This decision results from the effective implementation of the partnership agreement signed between the two states, known as “free roaming.” The initiative aims to facilitate mobility, reduce communication costs, and strengthen sub-regional integration, in line with commitments made by both governments.

In practical terms, a Burkinabè traveling to Ghana will be able to make calls, send SMS messages, or use mobile internet at the same rates as those applied in Burkina Faso. The same principle applies to Ghanaian users visiting Burkina Faso.

For authorities in both countries, this development marks another step toward the modernization of the telecommunications sector and the facilitation of human and economic exchanges. It is also expected to encourage cross-border travel and enhance user experience, particularly for workers, traders, students, and families who travel regularly.

The Burkina–Ghana agreement is part of a broader regional effort aimed at gradually eliminating tariff barriers within West Africa.
